Rhinebeck Recap

The Boar and I had a wonderful time at Rhinebeck this weekend! It has been far too long since he and I have taken a weekend away – it was nice to be reminded of why we fell in love in the first place! The weather was very cooperative – the air was cool and crisp, the leaves were beautiful and the rain held off until night time.

I have spent the better part of the morning putting together a photo album – check it out, it’s in the left hand column. You will even see a picture of my Boar making nice with some sheep! My camera battery is officially dead, so stash acquisition pictures will have to wait.

Our plan was to hit the road for the festival on Friday after we had dropped the girls off at various after school engagements. Once we got them situated we took a detour and bought one of these:

I still can’t believe we did it! Boar and I were in the market for a new car. His car is getting old and the timing is right. Of course, we went into it with the thought of making a more practical choice. We took the mini on a test drive and he fell in love with it. I have always loved the way they look. We take delivery on Wednesday – I will need to get to a nearby parking lot straight away to practice driving. It is a six speed and it has been over 15 years since I have driven a stick shift.

We were laughing the whole way to Rhinebeck – giddy with the thrill of a new toy and making plans for road trips!

I am here to tell you ladies ….

that taking your husbands to Sheep & Wool Festivals can be a very good thing. The Boar didn’t flinch at $$ spent, happily carried packages and only talked me out of one purchase. Melissa & Joanne will agree with the Boar when he says I shouldn’t buy an entire fleece. I need to work on actually spinning before buying that much raw fiber. My plan is to spin away over the winter and then buy a fleece in Maryland in the spring!

What could be more perfect than a romantic weekend with great weather and fibery purchases?

Running into some of my favorite bloggers! And meeting their adorable children. Nancy’s son was eager to show me some yarn she bought for him and to tell me that he is a knitter too – what a cutie pie he is. And Miss Gracie and I both fell in love with an angora rabbit – c’mon Mom, please!!?? I also enjoyed lunch with those crazy ladies from Webheads – head over there to wish Melissa luck with her surgery tomorrow.

  1. Love the car…such a different conversation from the one we had at Half and Half and Sweet and Low…

Gracie and I called Kevin–the bunnies were marked down to $25 near the end of the day and even for sale on the side of the road as you left…no go. Mr Meanypants. He has had a change of heart–definately MD–if not sooner.

  2. Brilliant auto, weekend, and what a Boar! I can only hope that when my sweetie and I can get to a fiber fest that we have as much fun as it sounds like you guys did!

  3. Love the car you bought! My mom and I are always pointing out Mini’s to each other when we are out and about. You’ll have to come up with a good pet name for it. Is the photo you posted the actual color combo you selected? They are such great looking little cars. Glad to hear you two had a great weekend. I look forward to seeing photos of your latest purchase this Wed.

  4. I hate to burst your bubble hon. But I figured out the whole scheme as our bus pulled outta rhinebeck. See, we passed this giant white Lincoln town car stuffed to the gills with bags–there was only room for a driver left in this thing.

The boar was probably wise, and figured if he only takes a mini on these fiber festival road trips from now on, he will come out way ahead. The dollar difference between what a mini can hold and what that boat of a towncar brought home must be enough to buy a new car…….I think you may have been outsmarted.

  5. I was thrilled to see you standing in that line!!! Can’t wait to see you and your wheel crammed into that mini, grinding coffee as you drive down the road! You will pick up a stick quickly, they have really changed.

Do you get that I’m nervous? It is 1:30am and I have to be at the hospital at 5am… can’t sleep…

You’d better come to LI Knits on Nov. 3!

    Love Ya!

  6. Mini’s ROCK! We took one out for a test drive and it is so much nicer than the original. You’ve got a rocket-powered skateboard there! With the stick shift, look on it as practise for a trip to England, almost all the cars there are manual transmission.
